Structural Reliability Analysis of Corroding Steel Bridges Using Random-Field Representation
Published in Maintenance, Safety, Risk, Management and Life Cycle Performance of Bridges, 2018
Corrosion can weaken steel bridge girders by reducing their thickness and forming pits on their surfaces. This study represents corrosion pits using a two-dimensional random field and incorporates the generated surfaces into Monte Carlo reliability analysis to estimate the service life of existing bridge girders.
